Meet the maker - Rebecca Denton

I make original fine art prints. By combining ancient printmaking techniques, such as etching with stories in my head, I try to create work that is contemporary and unique. From the idea to the sketch to the preparing and inking of the plate, I love every step of the process! Works are often narrative with imaginary characters in imagined landscapes; playful or serious, but always hopeful and life-affirming.

My most recent drypoint etching ‘Evening Flight’ is my new favourite. I’m very happy with the way it turned out as etching can be unpredictable... You never know exactly how it will look until the first print is pulled! I’ve tried to bring together both the drama and calm that the sea and birds in flight evoke.

My favourite place to find inspiration is my imagination, childhood memories and road trips.

Maker’s Choice – Rebecca Denton

I’m Rebecca Denton and I’m a painter/printmaker based in North London. I create unique, handcrafted prints and original illustrations.

I’m coming to Homeworks on Sunday 2 December with a selection of my prints and etchings.

I exhibit all over the UK, have work archived in the V+A and my etchings can be seen permanently at the Southbank Printmakers Gallery.

I work from my own rough sketches and ideas, combining various techniques.

I do love to create etchings and combining this ancient form of printmaking with original ideas. I enjoy every step of the process... from redrawing my pencil sketch onto a grounded zinc plate to adding various techniques for tone and texture.

The most exciting part is pulling the first print, as the result can be quite unexpected! The plate is inked for every print in the small edition making each one truly unique.

Janina Schroeter

I’m Janina and I started illustrating maps three years ago. Everything started as a Christmas present for friends but quickly I realised that a lot of people like my illustrations and can relate to them. Most of the times I illustrate maps. So far London, Queens Park, Kensal Rise or my hometown in Germany. It’s always places I love and where I have a connection to:

My favourite Map is the Queens Park one. I think many people who are going to visit the Homework Christmas Bazaar can relate to it and spot some familiar places also there is a personalised version where you can highlight your own special places in Queens Park which are important to you:

The best inspiration for me is to stroll around London and discover new things. So many areas in London are so unique and you always see different places, things and people. Taking pictures or sketches of these things inspire me and help me to make my maps detailed and fun to look at.

Meet the Maker - Rebecca Denton

My name is Rebecca Denton and I’m an illustrator, painter and printmaker based in North London. I translate my love of storytelling and comedy into the medium of printmaking.

By combining ancient techniques such as etching with fresh ideas, I try to produce work which is both contemporary and unique:

I create handmade fine art prints (etchings, linocuts, monoprints) in my home studio. I also do watercolours and chalk illustrations sold as limited edition prints and cards. Subjects include eccentric animals in unexpected situations and magical dream-like settings:

I have a background in performing arts and have worked as a photographic stills producer, greeting card designer and conceptual illustrator for Getty.

My work can be viewed permanently at the Southbank Printmakers Gallery which holds six exhibitions a year.
